May 29, 2016 – Summer Recipes

Hello Everyone!

How is your Memorial Day weekend going so far?  My family and I are enjoying this beautiful stretch of weather we have been having.  Some rain and thunderstorms have made it all a little more exciting, but right now it is just GORGEOUS!

It is great to have the sounds, smells, and sights of summer back again.  Yesterday (Saturday), we went to my sister and brother-in-law’s cookout.  They live near a lake and while we were outside we could hear the hum of the motor boats, smell the freshly mowed grass, burgers were sizzling on the grill, and the surrounding landscape was vibrant with new foliage.  It’s been a great start to the summer, so far.

We didn’t show up empty-handed to the cookout.  I made two dishes: Deluxe Macaroni Salad and Dirt Cake.  They were absolutely delicious and we even had some leftover for today. Now I don’t have to fuss over dinner! Below are the recipes.

Deluxe Macaroni Salad from Freistadt Cookbook

Deluxe Macaroni Salad

8 oz. macaroni, boiled and drained
½ lb. ham, diced
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
10 oz. frozen peas
4 hard-boiled eggs, diced
1 cup celery, diced
1/3 cup radishes, sliced
¼ cup green onion, chopped very fine
2/3 cup sour cream
1/3 cup mayo
1/3 cup pickle relish
1 ½ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and chill.

Dirt Cake

32 oz. Oreo Cookies (1 pkg. + 1 row)
8 oz. cream cheese
1 cup powdered sugar
½ cup butter (1 stick)
2 small pkg. instant vanilla pudding (3.4 oz.)
3 ½ cups milk
12 oz. whipped topping
Gummy worms, clean flower pot, etc. for decoration (optional)

  1. In a blender, grind Oreo cookies and set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, cream the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and butter. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, mix vanilla pudding and milk with a wisk. Fold in the whipped topping.  Fold in the cream cheese mixture.
  4. In a flower pot or other large container, place some of the whipped topping mixture on the bottom. Add some of the cookies and continue alternating cream mixture and cookies in layers.
  5. Refrigerate for 24 hours and garnish with gummy worms or other decorations.

I served each dish in 13 in x 9 in Pyrex pans because I transported them in a carrying case with lids and ice packs.  The macaroni salad fit perfectly, but I had extra dirt cake that I left behind for us later. Printable versions of these recipes are below.

STUFF

Good Afternoon, Everyone! I have been working on new Note-to-Self Mini books and wanted to take a break and say, “Hi”!

It’s been real quiet over here on the giggleFritz page, crickets REALLY!  There hasn’t been much to write about. Not much creating or sewing has been happening here and it’s all my own fault.   I have my own room/studio/shop to work in, but it has been more of a storage room than anything else.  When I actually sit down to sew, I drag my sewing machine into another room. Pathetic!  So, in the last week I have been cracking down and cleaning out STUFF! I was so happy once I set up my cutting mat and tools, we are all ready to go!

So, I am off to work in my beautiful, productive space!

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

It’s A Spring Thing 2016 – Craft Fair

Spring Thing 2016 (Medium)

I am excited to say giggleFritz and Company will have a booth in this year’s “It’s a Spring Thing” craft show coming in March!  I participated in this craft show in 2013 and enjoyed it very much.  They had a wonderful variety of crafter/artist and independent distributor booths.  The people and food were also terrific!  Admission is $3, but if you bring in a flier you get $1.00 off.  Click on the following links to print off fliers and see a map to the fair.

I hope we see each other on March 19!

Cake Walk

Today started out slowly and badly. I didn’t pop out of bed as I normally do. I waited until the last possible minute when I HAD to get the little girl up and out of her crib. Everything after that was me trying to pick up the slack. I got to the point where I had to look ahead and look forward to something just to get through the day. I remembered from the morning news it was National Chocolate Cake Day!! 🙂
That was good and all, but I had nothing that even closely resembled a chocolate cake. I made it my goal for the day to make sure we had chocolate cake for dessert tonight.
Next, I remembered my husband isn’t crazy about frosted chocolate cake. At birthdays, when this is served, he shares a couple bites of my cake. He does, however like brownies. I was really looking forward to decorating a cake, but opted to make brownies and throw some sprinkles on top.
Bam!!
Brownies for dessert, I had a worthwhile goal for my day! All would share the fruits of my labor! !!! Lol!
My day was not so bad. I have been working on more Socktopus guys for an upcoming craft show in March. I will post the flier soon.
Happy National Chocolate Cake Day, Everyone!! 🙂

Happy New Year, 2016!

Yes, I know it is twenty days past the New Year celebrations, but I hadn’t wished you all a Happy New Year, yet.  So, there it is. 🙂

I have three resolutions for 2016:

  1. Get more sleep
  2. Plan ahead better
  3. Read at least 3 book I have never read

What are your resolutions and how well have you been executing them?

Have an excellent day!

Happy Halloween!!

Normally, I would start off by saying some cliché thing about how I haven’t written anything in so long and I can’t believe it’s the last day of October. Well, I CAN believe it. I have been downright Busy lately and I am even enjoying it! Tomorrow is a big day too, but after I get through it I will try to write some more then. Until then, Happy Halloween, Everyone! 🙂

September 2, 2015- Happy Birthday to me!

...to me!!
…to me!!

I had a wonderful birthday today!  Got up and made pancakes and coffee.  Husband and daughter gave me great birthday presents: BOOKS! AND they are about LIGHTHOUSES!!  Did a few things around the house, went to the playground (in the humid gross weather 🙁 ), and finished the day by going out for a steak dinner.

My crafty contribution for today is this Birthday doodle to myself.  Nice!

September 1st – Start of ‘BER Season

Happy September 1st everyone! Not only is it the first day of September, it is the first day of the ‘BER season: September, October, November and December.  This is my most favorite time of the year for the food, the cool air, the beautiful foliage, football and more.  It is the perfect time to be inspired to create something new.  I hope you enjoyed your September 1st and Happy ‘BER season to you!
