Our DD went back to school this week. She was not too excited to go back. However, when she learned she would be riding the bus this year, life started to look sweeter. Life is looking sweeter for me too. I love my child, but I am hoping I can get a better grip on my time management skills and fill my Shop with some snuggly Sock Monkeys while DD is at school. It will be done.
We are back to packing lunches, sorting through hundreds of papers from school, and listening to stories of the dramas of recess. I am loving it so far, but will enjoy this last, busy week of August 2021. And it will just get busier!
What are you doing this weekend? Are they summery plans? Or, are they more Fall-type plans?
We are headed to a birthday party and a WELS teacher installation this weekend.
It’s Monday, yet I am feeling good! Got my coffee, my tunes, and I am about to get down to business at my sewing machine. Yesterday, I got (some of) my ducks in a row and worked on Note-to-Self mini books for the upcoming Coffee Break Fest in Stoughton, WI. August 21st! I am getting fantastically excited, but have a ton of work to do. So, I am off to work.
Have a wonderful Monday!
PS – I am listening to Fitz and the Tantrums Radio on Pandora. Yes, Pandora. No, not Spotify or whatever else is new. I actually still like Pandora and will stick with it because I am a stubborn German Lady, and that’s how I roll! Have a lovely day! 😀
Today, it happened. I finally tried sushi. Here is my story.
My DH works in downtown Milwaukee. During the many years that we have been married, frugal me has always encouraged a brown bag lunch. I am into saving money. I pack the lunch, he eats the lunch, we are a great team! I try to pack different sandwiches and fun treats, but DH is kind of picky and often is too busy to eat. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were a staple, and coworkers would tease him about them because he ate them so often.
Well before the Covid lockdown DH had been eating out at the downtown restaurants at least once a week. There were many work lunches and coworker birthdays, etc. No big deal for frugal me, it saved me the time of packing a lunch. One of his favorite restaurants was a sushi restaurant where he loved Tuna Rolls. I heard about Tuna Rolls often and was encouraged to try them. “NO WAY! I don’t want parasites!” was my usual response. I just could NOT get around raw meat.
DH is still working from home. It has been over a year. He might return to the office in September. Meanwhile, I am very bored with the same things we have been eating for lunch with our DD over summer. We have gotten into the habit of stopping at the grocery store after swimming lessons and the library on Tuesdays. We would pick up two of those cheapy “Roma” pizzas and a few items we needed. Not the best lunch, but something different. I had mentioned to DH that the grocery store had sushi near the entryway and wondered if he would like to try it. He said, “Sure”. Today, I finally remembered to send him a photo of what they offered for sushi! He asked me to grab Spicy Tuna Rolls and I prepared myself to try at least one piece of sushi.
Did I like it? Yes. It came with the fake wasabi stuff on the side. I like that because it has horseradish in it. It was spicy good!
Am I a bit worried about getting parasites? Kind of. I mean, people warn of eating “Gas Station Sushi”. That’s kind of the same thing. It’s not from a Sushi Restaurant. If not for the parasites thing, I would LOVE this dish. We will see. At least I tried something new today!
Happy Sunday, Everyone! This past Spring (and beginning of summer) have been so very busy. I don’t like to sit still, and I haven’t been. I’ve been working hard on our veggie garden, canning dandelion jelly and lilac jelly, running younger DD to rubberball and swimming lessons, and working on a few Sock Monkeys here and there. This summer will be history in no time!
One of the things I have continued to work on is running. I started back up over two years ago and have made a conscience effort to keep at it each week. Last year on New Year’s Eve I made a resolution to run in a 10K in 2020. I have run in a few 5K runs with my sister, but I thought I would challenge myself since I would have been running for a consecutive year. Then, Covid-19 happened and everything was called off except virtual runs. I wasn’t down with that. I kept running at home on our treadmill and outside. I was running 4-5 days a week and REALLY wanted a “Run” to participate in.
Back in April life around our area really started going back to normal. The masks started to come off and events started to get planned! I found that our favorite run was going to happen in June and I signed right up. Today, after two years of waiting, my sister, older DD, younger DD, and I got to run in our race again. Things are going better than normal!
Also, the t-shirt color this year was purple. It’s not my favorite color, but it’s my giggleFritz and Co. color. I take that as a good sign!
I hope you are having a wonderful summer and doing all of the things you love.
Hello, Everyone! Life has steadily been getting back to normal around our neck of the woods and I am LOVING that! I have been busy with all sorts of things in our home, but also getting back to sewing for craft fairs and filling my online shops. I know for a fact that the giggleFritz and Co booth has been accepted to the Coffee Break Fest Craft Fair on August 21st (So EXCITED!! :D)! I am praying that it won’t be cancelled and we will have a terrific time, like in previous years. Pray with me!
